Sweet Darusia Premiered in Lviv, Sponsored by Ukraine 3000 Foundation
May 28-29, 2008, the Mariya Zankovetska National Academic Ukrainian Theater (Lviv) hosted a performance by the Chernivtsi Oblast Kobylianska Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater, Sweet Darusia, based on a novel of the same name by Mariya Matios. The Lviv premier was organized by the Piramida Literary Agency with the support of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, Lviv Oblast Council and Oblast State Administration.
After the May 28 show, a presentation of the project was given by author of Sweet Darusia Mariya Matios and Ukraine 3000 Foundation representative, Executive Director of the Cultural Programs Department Vladislav Pioro. He read out an address from Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko. “This book leads us to a reappraisal of values, involving us into an extremely powerful human drama. Sweet Darusia is also a novel about Ukraine, its political pains and disappointments. I’m proud that we have a living historical memory and also gifted writers and directors, able to pass it to our descendants in a creative form,” the letter read.
Lviv was the third Ukrainian city, after Chernivtsi and Cherkasy, to see Maria Matios’s Sweet Darusia onstage.
