Decision Announced of the Contest Committee to Select General Designer of the Children’s Hospital of the Future
July 26, 2007, around 9:00 pm, the Contest Committee of the Contest to Select General Designer of the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health summarized the results of its two-days’ work and announced its decision.
Before announcing the results of the work of the Contest Committee and Supervisory Board of the Contest, their members were introduced to the public. According to the contest procedure, the names of the Contest Committee and Supervisory Board members are kept secret until their work is done, to secure an impartial procedure and avoid possible influence upon their decision.
Head of the Contest Committee Mr. Sanford M. Melzer (Seattle, the US), said, “We thank first of all Kateryna Yushchenko for her idea and vision of this hospital. We are convinced that this hospital will change the whole system of aid to Ukraine’s children. We thank Vira Pavliuk who works so much to make this dream come true.” Mr. Melzer also thanked the members of the Contest Committee, referring to them as “an incredible team experienced in architecture, medicine, and financial mechanisms.”
“Our procedure followed the democratic rules of transparency and openness. We worked in accordance with the written procedure; our decision was absolutely transparent, with no deviations,” Mr. Melzer said. “At present we don’t even know the names of the companies submitting their proposals to the contest. The highest criterion was to what extent this hospital would satisfy the needs of Ukrainian children.”
Mr. Melzer read out the minutes of the Contest Committee meeting. He said that the procedure of selecting the winners was in the form of a closed secret voting, with 11 bulletins being used. The Contest’s Supervisory Board accepted all bulletins as valid.
So, by the Contest results, the Committee selected two best projects. They received equal number of votes and shared the first place.
These projects will be recommended by the Contest Committee for the consideration of the supreme governing body of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Fund, the Conference. The recommended designs’ codes are – FGH4C òà P21970.
In the end of his speech, Mr. Melzer expressed his hope to meet all the members of the Contest Committee and Supervisory Board, as well as the journalists, at the unveiling of the hospital, which, in his view, will change dramatically the system of health care in Ukraine and will allow to render high-quality treatment to the Ukrainian children.
After that, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Contest Ihor Sydorov read out the minutes of the Supervisory Board’s work.
Members of the Committee and Supervisory Board received thanks and memorabilia from the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Fund.
At present, the final procedure of the contest is underway, meeting of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Fund, which is to select the winner.
