Ukraine 3000 Foundation Presents Ukraine Remembers, the World Recognizes Website and Books on Holodomor
The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation continues the series of events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor Manmade Famine in Ukraine.
November 20, 2008, the Foundation presented two books on Holodomor at the Ukrainian House: The Candle of Memory: Oral History of the Genocide against the Ukrainians by Valentyna Borysenko and The Genocide against the Ukrainians: Deformation of the Folk Culture by Olesia Stasiuk, along with the Ukraine Remembers, the World Recognizes website.
Borysenko’s The Candle of Memory: Oral History of the Genocide against the Ukrainians was first presented in September 2007, at the Fourteenth Book Publishers’ Forum in Lviv. The book shows the tragedy of the Ukrainian people during the genocide Holodomor in 1932-1933 on the basis of witness accounts. Valentyna Borysenko is Ph.D. in History, founder of Ukraine’s first ethnology and local history chair at the Kyiv Shevchenko National University, scholar, and author of around 170 scholarly papers on Ukrainian ethnology.
Stasiuk’s monograph demonstrates the ethnographic aspect of the genocide against the Ukrainian people on the basis of documents and oral history. The author shows the destructive changes in Ukrainian rural culture: changes in nutrition, deforming family rites, destroying the faith and inculcating Soviet holidays, destroying folk arts and crafts. Olesia Stasiuk is head of the History Lessons program by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, Candidate of Science in History, ethnologist. The Genocide against the Ukrainians: Deformation of the Folk Culture was presented to broad public for the first time.
Ukraine Remembers, the World Recognizes website is an updated version of the History Lessons program’s website founded by Ukraine 3000 Foundation in 2003. It features documents on recognizing Holodomor of 1932-1933 genocide against the Ukrainian people on global level and witness accounts. The website address is http://www.holodomor33.org.ua/.
For the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor Manmade Famine in Ukraine, the Ukraine 3000 Foundation initiated publication of seven books, whose complete pressruns were donated to oblast scientific libraries and college libraries in Ukraine.
