The Ukrainian Center for Museum Development Completes Its Action on Donating Books to Ukraine’s Libraries



December 21, 2006, representatives of the Ukrainian Center for Museum Development at the Ukraine 3000 Fund passed over book sets to Kyiv oblast libraries. The ceremony took place on the premises of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy National University Scientific Library. The presents were handed over by Head of the Yesterday Area of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Oleksiy Kopytko and Head of the Information and Analysis Department of the Ukrainian Center for Museum Development Vladyslav Pioro.

The book sets were handed over to sixteen Kyiv oblast libraries: the State Young Adulkts Library of Ukraine, State Sukhomlynsky Scientific and Pedagogic Library of Ukraine, Kyiv National Shevchenko University Maksymovych Scientific Library, National Vernadsky Library of Ukraine, National Parliament’s Library of Ukraine, Lesya Ukrayinka Public Library, Kyiv Polytechnic Institute National Technical University Scientific and Technical Library, Kyiv Drahomanov Pedagogical University Library, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy National University Scientific Library, Kyiv national Linguistic University Library, National Culture and the Arts University Library, Kyiv Theater University Library, Kyiv Karpenko-Kary Theater, Cinema, and Television University Library, National Tchaikovsky Musical Academy of Ukraine Library, National State Management Academy at the President of Ukraine Library, and Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky Skovoroda Pedagogical Institute Library.

With this event the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, Fund for Developing the National Arts Museum, and Center for Museum Development have concluded their countrywide action presenting books to Ukrainian libraries, started on September 28, 2006, and timed to coincide with the All-Ukrainian Libraries’ Day. In these three months representatives of the Center for Museum Development have visited all Ukraine’s oblasts and presented book sets to 180 libraries. The presents went to over 30 libraries of state and oblast levels, around 80 region and city libraries, and around 70 college libraries. The complete list can be found at the Ukraine’s Museum Space internet portal.

The book sets included:

  • album on Ukraine’s National Arts Museum collection;
  • album on Ukrainian icon painting of the 12th-19th century;
  • catalogue of the exhibition Ukrainian Portrait in the 16th-18th Centuries;
  • collection of the works of Ukrainian art of the 19th-early 20th century;
  • collection of the works of Ukrainian art of the 20th-early 21st century;
  • album dedicated to the life and works of Oleksandr Murashko (1875–1919).

Scientific libraries (college ones included) of humanitarian type have also received a collection of works on archeology, Goths and Rome (Kyiv, 2006).
The market cost of each set equals to roughly UAH 2,000 ($400).
