The Dreamland International Folk Festival Continues
The Third Dreamland International Folk Festival, among whose organizers is the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, continues at the Kyiv Spivoche Pole.
The festival presents a musical folk performance in the form of an outdoor fete. The festival’s daily program features live performances by authentic and folk ensembles from throughout the world. By a tradition, the performances take place on several stages.
On July 8, the festival visitors got a chance to familiarize themselves with Ukrainian folk art through concerts of the Lukyni Rosy and Volodar authentic song groups, the Nadobryden group, Drevo ensemble of folk music researchers and performers, and many others.
This year’s festival hosts the biggest number of foreign guests, with representatives of around 30 countries participating in it. On July 8, many foreign artists performed on the Spivoche Pole stages, in part:
- Vilddas group (Finland). This group combines Turkish-Arabic ud-lute and ney-flute with traditional Lapp yoik singing;
- Cliff Stapleton and Jonathan Shorland (Great Britain) specialize in playing ancient European instruments. The artistes also conducted a master class in dancing ancient British dances;
- Ivo Papasov (Bulgaria) is a virtuoso clarinetist. His music is a mix of Bulgarian and Balkan traditional tunes with modern ones.
The festival also features a children’s program, including various creative activities for children: clay modeling, painting, appliqué, making hay toys, folk dances, children’s songs, playing musical instruments, etc.
The festival also hosts a fair – workshop. Here one can watch various folk craftsmen at work and buy their handmade ware. The festival visitors have a chance to get involved into making various folk handmade goods.
The festival’s founders are the Dreamland Public Organization, Ukraine 3000 International Foundation, and Art-Veles Arts Agency.
The festival will go on till July 9, 2006.
