The Third Dreamland International Festival Opened in Kyiv
The main stage of the Spivoche Pole hosted the opening of the Dreamland 2006 Third International Folk Festival. One of its organizers is, by tradition, the Ukraine 3000 Charitable Foundation.
At the opening ceremony, Counselor to the Head of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation Supervisory Council Andriy Myroshnichenko delivered a speech. Greeting the audience with the beginning of the festival, he said, “I am extremely pleased to open this festival. It seems like yesterday when Oleh Skrypka came to the Foundation proposing to organize the Dreamland, but in fact today it's the third time we open it. For at least these three days we will certainly live in the land of dreams. I wish you to stay in this Dreamland for not only these days but the whole year”.
This year’s festival will bring together most interesting representatives of ethnic culture throughout Ukraine and will host an unprecedented number of visitors from abroad. In the next three days the audience will have a chance to familiarize themselves with ethnic culture of over thirty countries.
The Dreamland festival was founded in 2004. Its founders are the Ukraine 3000 International Foundation, Dreamland Public Organization headed by Oleh Skrypka, and Art-Veles Arts Agency. Today it is the biggest ethnic festival in Ukraine.
The performance will take place simultaneously in several places: three folk stages, folk dance workshop, rite stage, kobzar stage, the Fira perambulating scene; master classes in traditional folk handcrafts will be held at the Craftsmen Lane, Children’s Glade will await the kids, and appetizing ethnic cuisines – the gourmets.
Owing to the festival, star of the world music Natacha Atlas will first come to Ukraine. Her style is a fusion of Middle East tunes, rap, hip-hop, French chanson, African ethno, and European club beat.
