September 18, 2007, representatives of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, headed by Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, visited the Kirovohrad National Technical University. Among the participants of the event were Head of the Kirovohrad Oblast State Administration Vadym Chernysh, Head of the Education and Science Administration Valentyna Prylipko, Advisor to Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Andriy Myroshnichenko, Director of the Scientific and Educational Programs Department at the Ukraine 3000 Fund Oleksandr Oliynyk, representatives of the local authorities and Ukraine 3000 Fund.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Fund members met with students and faculty members of Kirovohrad oblast schools and universities. The meeting was dedicated to presenting the Fund’s educational programs to Kirovohrad pedagogues and students.
Addressing the audience, Mrs. Yushchenko said that in the summer 2007 the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund announced the Ukraine’s Innovative Intellect Second All-Ukrainian Youth Contest. She added that the Kirovohrad National Technical University was the first Ukraine’s educational institution to host the contest’s official presentation. Mrs. Kateryna told the students and professors about the contest principles and invited them to take part in it. “Today Ukraine has everything that is required to enter the circle of the leading countries in terms of innovative technologies, since we can boast extremely talented and intelligent young people,” she said. “We can proudly say that a part of this potential has revealed in course of our contest.” Mrs. Yushchenko called on the young people to “take every chance to fulfill themselves, to study, learn something new, and in due time realize their talents in Ukraine.” She added that the community had to help the gifted and talented young people, creating decent conditions for their self-fulfillment.
Besides, Mrs. Yushcenko recalled the last year’s Ukraine’s Innovative Intellect contest. In part, she spoke about the Plant a Tree project, proposed by third year student of the State Flight Training Academy Andriy Lohvinov. He suggested that every student, having entered a university, planted a tree in honor of this event. Considering that hundreds of thousands of young people become students every year, implementing this project would help to increase Ukraine’s green belt dramatically, bringing a considerable impact on the ecological, social, and economical situation.
In Mrs. Kateryna’s words, the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s experts had approved on this idea, and a decision had been made to start it precisely in Kirovohrad, the author’s native city. Mrs. Yushchenko said that the Students’ Lane would be founded after the meeting, and invited all those present to take part in the action.
Besides, Mrs. Yushchenko described the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s new charitable program, Do Good: Start with Yourself, announced September 1, 2007. The program is aimed at reviving and developing the traditions of charity at Ukrainian schools. During the program’s pilot stage, scheduled for the academic year 2007-2008, a group of 30 schools or classes will be formed to implement charitable actions worked out by its participants with the support from the Ukraine 3000 Fund. “We want to help children understand that doing good is everybody’s internal necessity,” Mr. Kateryna said. “However, you need to learn how to do charity, as well as any other skill. We are sure that, as a result of this program, the children will develop a striving to do good and an ability to react promptly and effectively to the needs of those requiring their help.”
In their turn, the students and professors expressed their views on the subject. Among the speakers were Rector of the Kirovohrad National Technical University Mykhaylo Chornovol, Head of the Kirovohrad Oblast State Administration Vadym Chernysh, and Kirovohrad oblast university students who took part in the first Ukraine’s Innovative Intellect Contest. Mrs. Yushchenko thanked the speakers for their grounded opinions on developing Ukraine’s intellectual potential, in part, in Ukrainian students. She called on the students and youth organizations members to take more active part in developing our state and seeking ways for solving its problems. Mrs. Kateryna said that the Fund was and would be doing everything possible to create the most favorable conditions for the young people’s development in Ukraine.
On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko donated to the Kirovohrad National Technical University library the Ukraine, Cossack State book. Besides, the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund and Kirovohrad National Technical University agreed to sign a Memorandum on Cooperation in Organizing and Conducting the Ukraine’s Innovative Intellect Competition.
After that, Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives took part in planting the trees in the Kirovohrad National Technical University grounds together with the students and faculty.
Also, accompanied by Rector Chornovol, Mrs. Kateryna and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives took a tour of the grounds and talked to its professors and students.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives are staying in Kirovohrad for a one-day working trip. Its agenda also envisages visiting the Children’s House and Kirovohrad Oblast Clinical Hospital.
