Program to Support Museum Workers for 2008-2009

The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund together with the Ukrainian Center for Museum Development announces the start of the Program to Support Museum Workers for 2008-2009.

The major goal of the Program remains the same: offer beneficial aid to the professionals who make their museum a central piece of the cultural space in their region, serving the society and popularizing the cultural heritage preserved in their museum.

The participants of the Program can be managers, research fellows, and creative staff members of any Ukraine’s museums, irrespective of their form of ownership, place of registration and location, etc.

To take part in the Program, an applicant has to mail or present in person to the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund documents reflecting the results of his/her work for 2007.

The documents have to be delivered to the Fund by 5 p.m. April 20, 2008.

This year’s program differs from the previous ones not as much in a minor increase of the payments (reflecting the inflation rates in this country) as in the mechanism of these payments.

It is planned that in the first stage (June-December 2008) up to ten museum workers will receive financial aid of UAH 4,500 (taxes not included). The aid will be awarded after the Fund’s Board of Directors decision based on the recommendations from the Fund’s Public Council as part of the Museum Development program.

Please have in mind that the aid will be paid not in equal shares, like it was previously, but all at once. We hope that this approach will allow the grant holders to plan their expenses more consciously and more efficiently, in accordance with their needs.

It is possible that some museum workers (up to 10) will be awarded additional one-time payments of UAH 600, like it happened last year.

The charitable aid can be given again in January 2009, in the same amount and same way as in the first stage, if the recipient is systematically working to increase his/her museum’s influence as well as the development of the museum business in general.

The results of the Program and names of the grant recipients will be made public by May 18, 2008 (International Museum Day).

Last year the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund together with the Ukrainian Center for Museum Development implemented the Program to Support Museum Workers for the third time. The Organizing Committee received 103 applications from museum workers coming from 24 Ukraine’s regions. Due to the program, financial aid of UAH 8,400 has been paid to eight museum workers during the last year, with another ten persons receiving UAH 500 each. The total sum of the payments was over UAH 72,000. A poll among the grant holders showed that most of them use the grant money for trips, purchasing books, and other expenses connected with their professional growth.
