The Third All-Ukrainian Grant Competition for Treatment and Rehabilitation Institutions for Children with Cerebral Palsy was held from February 20 till April 20, 2008. The total of 87 applications have been submitted, among which 24 winners were selected.

She visited a fair-exhibition, presenting the embroidering and singing culture of every village in Borshchiv district and the Borshchiv 2008 borsch fest. Mrs. Kateryna took part in cooking borsch in the central city square at a borsch cooking competition, where every village presented to the public its own borsch recipe.

This year the award was given to the Big Illustrated Encyclopedia of Ukraine by Kyiv-based Makhaon Ukraine Publishers. The 500-paged, richly illustrated book contains comprehensive information on our country.

328 books took part in the competition, presented by 66 Ukrainian publishers. The panel consisted of several groups: magazines’ chief editors, writers, scholars (humanitarian and natural sciences), public figures, artists, librarians, and teachers. Mr. Maksymchuk was the head for the public figures group.

The Ukraine 3000 Foundation awarded the winners and consultants with sets of scholarly books on Holodomor, published in 2007-2008 with the Foundation’s support.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Maksymenko remarked on the high level of skills and training, demonstrated by the participants, “which is evidence of their ability and will to serve devotedly the interests of the Independent Ukraine.” Mr. Maksymchuk thanked the SSU for “revealing consistently and purposefully the yet unknown pages of our history.”

Recall that the contest of art objects for the Contemporary Arts Park at the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health, a.k.a. Children’s Hospital of the Future, was announced September 13, 2007. The first stage was finished March 1, 2008.

By the contest conditions, its participants have an opportunity to select the best works among those sent to the contest. Every participant can send a letter from his/her email address indicated in their submission forms, voting for any three works they believe the best.

In the afternoon, Mrs. Kateryna and her children took part in the celebration prepared by participants of the Ukraine Our Land All-Ukrainian Children’s Festival, winners of the Step to the Stars program, and laureates of the highest presidential award for children, Star of Ukraine.

Mrs. Yushchenko said that her visits to people’s houses had revealed every family’s most acute needs: from children’s clothes to construction materials. The Ukraine 3000 Foundation decided to render the devastated areas financial aid of UAH 500,000 to purchase concrete, window panes, bricks, clothes, and books for the children on the eve of the new academic year, school desks and blackboards for the restored schools, blankets and sheets,” she said.

Mrs. Yushchenko toured the hospital’s surgery block, hematology department, and newborn’s ICU. She also took part in a press conference on the Ukraine 3000 Foundation and Procter & Gamble joint project aimed at helping children with impaired hearing.

Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko Meets with Experts and Winners of the First Stage of the Grants Program for Small Cultural and Art Projects
In course of the meeting, the experts gave their evaluation of the project submitted to the contest, noting the importance of non-governmental support for cultural projects, since there are no other grant programs of this kind in Ukraine. Representatives of the winning organizations presented their projects to be implemented with the participation of Ukraine 3000 Foundation and took part in their discussion.
