
Oleksandr Maksymchuk Juries in the Book Publishers’ Forum’s Best Book 2008 Competition

September 10, 2008, saw a meeting of the Book Publishers’ Forum’s Best Book 2008 competition’s panel, held at the Fifteenth Book Publisher’s Forum in Lviv. Among the panel members was Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk.
328 books took part in the competition, presented by 66 Ukrainian publishers. The panel consisted of several groups: magazines’ chief editors, writers, scholars (humanitarian and natural sciences), public figures, artists, librarians, and teachers. Mr. Maksymchuk was the head for the public figures group.
The Grand Prix went to Shakespeare’s Hamlet, translated by Yuri Andrukhovych and published by the Kyiv-based A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA Publishing House. Another 15 books were given the title of the Lviv Fifteenth Book Publisher’s Forum’s best books.
The public figures group nominated the Great Famine in Ukraine. 1932-1933 fur-volume (compiled by Prof. James Mace, published by the Kyiv Mohyla Academy Publishing House, Kyiv).
The awards ceremony took place September 11 at the opening ceremony of the Fifteenth Book Publisher’s Forum at the Lviv Opera House.
